South Asia in the Post-Pandemic World: Challenges and Opportunities

The COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the most disastrous events of the current times. It has altered the human behavior and interaction in an unprecedented manner. While the health infrastructure of developed countries was shaken to the core, it was the underdeveloped and developing countries that had to face the horrendous brunt of the pandemic. The South Asian region which has a thin public health infrastructure faced massive challenges during the pandemic. The sub-continent had to learn to cope with the pandemic not only on the front of health services but also on various economic and strategic fronts. The current book aims to explore both the challenges and the opportunities that have arisen as a result of covid -19 pandemic. While on one hand, the already poorly integrated region has suffered in terms of mobility of both goods and people, on the other hand, the increased reliance on information and communication technology has enabled and opened up newer vistas of cooperation on virtual platforms. The idea behind this book is to invite interdisciplinary articles bringing together insights from fields such as History, Political Science, Commerce, Public Health Economics, Environment and Ecology, Media Studies etc. in order to develop a holistic view on the impact of pandemic on the South Asian region.

The proposed book aims to have articles from academicians, practitioners, media people and other experts working in the fields relevant to the subject of the book. The scope of the book will extend, but not remain limited, to the following sub-themes:

  • Medical Diplomacy in South Asia
  • Pandemic and Digital Divide in South Asia
  • Civil Society Actors and Pandemic
  • Local Efforts and Pandemic
  • Post Pandemic Approach: Challenges and Perspectives
  • Economic and Political Consequences
  • Vaccine Diplomacy in South Asia
  • Socio-Cultural effect of pandemic
  • New Opportunities in Post Pandemic

The book will be jointly edited by Dr. Vaishali Raghuvanshi (Assistant Professor of Political Science, MMV, Banaras Hindu University) and Dr. Pramod Jaiswal (Research Director, Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement).

The book will be published by reputed international publisher.
