Role of International Organisations in the Changing World Order

The current world order is witnessing a change in political order. In addition to the pandemic, there has been an outcry of a revival of Cold War spirit. The ramifications are visible in the emerging group politics and an evident rise in the alliances around the world. In the midst of the political, economic and basic medical challenges, how will the world rise above the differences? What role do the international organisations play in the current dynamics? Do international organisations guarantee peace and security or do they add to the threat perception?

The book aims to trace the changing role of the international organisations historically in crises as well as in tackling challenges like migration, state security threats as well as human rights. International organisations address the harder and softer issues in global politics. The book will take into account the latest developments and address the reasons behind selective and focused regional organisations. It will address different perspectives towards international organisations across different fields using case studies. The different chapters will be spun along the following themes:

  1. Historical evolution of International Organisations in international politics (changing definitions).
  2. Reasons behind the rise of regional organisations and their scope.
  3. Roles played by back channel diplomacy and outliers in the same. Does that impact the role played by International Organisations?
  4. Identifying the failed organisations and analysing the reasons behind them.

The broad sub-themes are (but not limited to):

  1. Historical evolution of International Organisations in international politics (changing definitions).
  2. Reasons behind the rise of regional organisations and their scope.
